the national anthem

I do notice time and again, even at sporting events, ceremonies, and a more recent one- an ys steddfod celebration in a local high school nearby - seems to bring out much warmth and full-hearted singing from the crowd, be it parents or the children, when the national anthem comes into play. I don't know if this is peculiar to the welsh only (who are very proud to be Cymraeg and not seasneg, mind you) but we seem a bit 'inhibited' or insipid when it comes to displaying our affection through this simple yet profound act of nationalism. Well, at least i wasn't the only one scratching my head, having another fellow-countryman along side who also seemed baffled and at the same time , amazed by their displayed solidarity, makes a non-coincidental two curious minds. Maybe, the indifference and apathy is a sign of the underlying greater social and political malaise afflicting our current society. . which as bananas-in-pajamas always say, 'are you thinking what i'm thinking?'.
