Racism- the ugly truth

I think racism is clearly demonstrated by the 'general banter' here which the locals seem to enjoy doing, taking the mickey out of foreign doctors in particular.

Firstly, to Argie-Bargie for insulting the malaysian staff grade which I reckon has done a tremendous job covering for the two very 'challenging' consultants (argie-bargie went on-and-on till suddenly all went hushed when one another realised he is a MALAYSIAN!), and next regarding this huge gentleman whom i'm attached for the fortnight, not commenting on his work ethics but more so his burly and 'snotty' demenour. If you turn the discussion around instead, I think the programme director's role first as a teacher, and next as a leader amongst all other clinicians is highly questionable, judging from the spate of insensitive comments which he's subjected my fellow countryman to in the recent week, and for poor choice of word usage, claiming that 'you get idiots for being taught by idiot teachers' during a grand-round meeting- which sparked a huge row with another senior clinician. This place is just a warzone of egos.. No wonder the previous PD quitted his position, to concentrate purely on the practice rather than management.

Mind you, if there were'nt any foreign doctor working here, I don't think this hospital would be where it is today. Ask the foreign docs, what sacrifices they had to make for coming over here to serve your community? One even has a 5 month old child in england, and only commutes back every other weekend if he's not on-call- pity and admire the man seriously for his determination for going all out so far, for the sake of providing a decent future for his child and family.
Ask any local if they were to ever want to work here and you'll get a resounding NO!

Would you?
